These forms are from a sample that was labeled "Santa Monica floating block".
The sample was sent to Charles Boyer, Philadelphia, PA, and was probably awaiting cleaning and mounting by Cyrus Chappell.
This particular marine fossil material (Miocene epoch) caused a lot of excitement when it was found washed up on the beach and then studied by diatomists (1876-78).

Santa Monica type slide
Amazing to think about this sample waiting for over 100 years until you prepared this very nice type slide!
Thank you very much.
